We have more than 40 full-time teachers, 60 of whom have advanced degrees in their respective fields. Our faculty has taught at institutions such as Howard University, Purdue University, University of Massachusetts, Clemson University, University of South Carolina, and many more. Allen’s students benefit from educated teachers who take care of them personally.
Grants and benefits are considered free money and do not need to be returned by the recipient. These funds can be provided by the federal government, state government, private sponsors or Allen University. The Federal Peel Grant is given to undergraduate students who have enrolled in a qualified program, have not earned a bachelor’s degree, and who demonstrate financial need. The amount of the grant is determined by the applicant’s family financial status through the Federal Peel Grant Program. Students who demonstrate a financial need for a Director of Student Financial Aid are awarded a federal supplementary educational opportunity grant. As long as funds are available, students who show an unnecessary need for these grants will be considered first.
The South Carolina Tuition Grant has been awarded to residents of South Carolina who have studied entirely at Allen University during the regular academic year Students who fail to enroll full-time during the fall semester lose their eligibility for the entire award year. Eligible students must enroll within 12 hours each semester. The SC Tuition Grant does not fund classes in June or July. Students who receive 100% tuition through another institution are not eligible for SC tuition grant. To be eligible for SC tuition grant funds, students must complete their FAFSA by June 30 and a certification statement each year before November 15. In the spring semester, South Carolina tuition grant funds will be split into two, according to the new South Carolina Tuition Grant Regulation. The SC Hope Scholarship is a one-year merit-based scholarship designed for eligible first-time admissions to a four-year institution. Eligible full-time students can receive up to ، 2,800.
The story of Allen University begins seven years after the signing of the Freedom Demonstration and five years after the end of the American Civil War. Following the end of the conflict, the former Confederate states saw a significant expansion of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. On July 29, 1870, John Johnflyn Brown of Columbia District, ME Church, and the pastors agreed to raise funds for a purchase on a 150-acre farm in Coxbury, South Carolina. He hoped to find a school there that would be “the first Negro self-activity and Negro manhood learning organization” in the state of South Carolina.
Allen University’s initial mission involved educating students of all levels and ages. The university not only offered degrees in law, theology and arts, but also included elementary and high school studies. At that time, anyone could enter Allen University as a child in the first grade and be ready to teach, preach or petition in the courts. The grammar school was closed in the mid-twenties, and the high school was closed after the 1933 class graduation. The university accepted only those who had completed high school for the 1929-33 school term. Allen University celebrated its centenary in 1970, marking the end of a century of fulfilling its educational mission. Founded in 1870 by former slaves, the institution still provides an unforgettable commitment to undergraduate education, research, and community service, in the slogan of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Empty: “God our Father, our Christ, our friend our brother.”
Allen University celebrates each year with a renewed commitment to prepare its students to meet the challenges of this century. This commitment can be traced back to the acquisition and re-establishment of a university that has the honor of awarding bachelor’s degrees from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and its accepted membership in the UN Negro College Fund. The University remains faithful to the dreams of its founders and to its historic mission and purpose, as its slogan states, “We teach the mind to think, to work, and to love with the heart.”
